Born April fools day 2008 to MJ, My unknown origin Colombian female with a reverse stripe. Sired by My '05 F1 Leubking Salmon, DH Coral Sunglow. And exactly what I was hoping to see from her.
Due to the frequency and similarity of the markings to Mom, I really suspect this may be some genetic thing going on with her. 3 of the offspring came out with minor reverse striping that looks almost exactly like Moms, and 11 of them came out even more reverse striped then her, but with the same bulbous shape at the end of the stripes. 14 reverse stripe babies out of 35 is a full 40% of the litter.
Anyway, before I go getting myself too excited, I still need to prove things out. See if it happens again, and if it does, find out the nature in which it passes. I have moved mom to a completely different enclosure for the next attempt, larger basking area and warmed it up a tad more to rule out environment as a factor for the striping.
I gave her the year off, and plan on putting one of her reverse striped Salmon sons back to her in the 2009/2010 season, so we can see what happens. If one of her sons isn't ready, I may just try the same Salmon partner as the first time, and see if it strikes again. With any sort of luck, we'll be seeing more of these beauties in the future, and if we do, neat things are sure to follow.
Even if it doesn't prove inheritable, I'm sure gonna have fun trying.
